Chair of Governors  -   Mr. Robert Gregory

Vice-Chair of Governors -   Mrs Michelle Kiting

I was born and grew up in Ramsgate including attending St Laurence Methodist Church. After college and working in hotels and the wine trade, I changed career and joined the public sector. After nearly 20 years in government finance and 15 more years in public purchasing I returned to Ramsgate to look after my mother.

In government I worked across departments to deliver projects and design solutions to complex issues. I am proud of work I completed with nearly 50 apprentices: developing their work skills and encouraging their personal development.

I have two grown up children and have voluntary roles in a small number of local organisations.  My role on the Governors is to lead meetings and support the school and Trust in their work and occasional panel hearings where an independent opinion is required.

I have a wide experience of secondary education, having taught English in both the private and state sectors. I now work part-time for an agency tutoring children in the care system. I am a Parochial Churchwarden for St Laurence-in-Thanet and my interests include visiting art galleries and reading extensively.

I was born and raised in Thanet, spending my childhood in Birchington and then moving to Broadstairs and the surrounding area before settling in Ramsgate to raise my family about 13 years ago.
I have predominantly worked in childcare my entire adult life, beginning in nursery and early years, becoming a deputy manager in two settings before making the jump to education once my children were a little older. I work as a TA in a local infant school and have been a parent governor at St Laurence for over a year.
Having had the experience of working in education I have a real passion for ensuring that our children are offered every opportunity to flourish and grow and feel that my role as a parent governor gives me a great opportunity to contribute to that goal.

I grew up in Minster but have lived in many of the towns in Thanet. My career started in IT for the NHS and later Local Government, where I also worked on County and General elections.  I later specialised in medical device repair in life sciences. Currently I manage a team of biomedical engineers who maintain devices in the UK and Ireland for a global device manufacturer.
I am passionate about education and getting more diverse representation in sciences and engineering.

I have been teaching for 30 years, starting my career in Middlesbrough and moving to Kent in 1998.  I completed my CE NPQH in 2021 and have been Headteacher here at St Laurence since September 2021.  I have taught KS1 and KS2 children in a variety of schools, however my return to St Laurence as HT is my third time teaching here!
My passion for education and dedication to pupil and staff wellbeing are at the core of my beliefs and my philosophy of educating the 'whole child'; both academic and character education underpin the foundations of the St Laurence vision.
