6BG's Blog

Friday 10th May

This week has been a busy week for 6BG. We have been doing plenty of revision for our SATs. In art we have been learning about the Mayans and the art that they have on the walls of their temples. In Literacy we have learnt about the Apollo 11 moon landing.

Friday 3rd May

This week is our second week back, Hurray!! SATs are coming soon, get READY. We have been working hard to prepare ourselves!

This week, we have been learning about the lunar landing in 1969. Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin landed on the moon.
Here are some facts:
• The Apollo 11 took off on 16th July 1969 and reached the moon after three and a half days
• The lunar module landed on the moon slowly and it was feared that it would sink on the moon. But it landed on firm ground.
• Armstrong said, “One small step for man, one giant leap for mankind!” as he took his first step.
Today, we looked at theories that the moon landing was a hoax! We are looking forward to debating this next week!

In maths, we have looked at 3D shapes and nets, as well as parts of a circle! Test us by asking what the different parts are!

Friday 29th March

This week we learnt about the SMART rules in Internet Safety Week:

Safety   Meeting   Accepting   Reliable   Tell

In literacy we have been making leaflets about how to keep safe online and how to block cyber-bullies. As well as this, we have been calculating perimeter and area in maths.

In PE we have loved playing Basketball and Bench ball. Today we had four matches of Basketball.

We are looking forward to the final week of Term 4 next week!

Friday 1st March

Welcome back to scIMG 0273hool for term 4. Extreme Earth was the title of our Half-Term project; Volcanoes, Tornadoes, Hurricanes, Blizzards and Tsunamis! The projects have been extraordinary, well done to everyone.
As well as this, the NSPCC visited our school to talk about child safety, including internet safety. We will be continuing work with the NSPCC next week.

Friday 14th Decemberchoir visit acorn

This week our class has had a lot of fun activities!
Firstly, we have had the Year 3’s production of the nativity called ‘The Apprentice’. The nativity was excellent and made us feel a lot of different emotions!
We have also had the annual Christmas Singalong. There were many carols to be sung, as well as many jokes to keep us laughing. There was a performance by the Ukulele club and the Choir.
This week, the Choir sang at the acorn club for elderly people with Rev. Pete.
We hope you have a lovely holiday. See you in Term 3.
Bye!!!!

Friday 7th December

This week, 6BG have been creating Christmas decorations for the classroom. We made stained glassed windows, hand holly reefs and paper chains. This took us about the entire afternoon to do and now the classroom is full of decoration and everyone enjoyed making these.
Also on Tuesday we went to the pantomime to see Cinderella. We left at 11o’clock and got there at 11:35. We had a great time and got back to school at 4:30. We have written fan-mail to our favourite actor.

Friday 16th November

This week 6BG have been looking at anti bullying and recycling (the 3Rs; Reduce, Reuse, Recycle). In class we have written poems and songs about the importance of recycling. As well as this, we have watched clips from Blue Planet II and songs by Michael Jackson and Madonna that made us think about the impact us humans have on the Earth.
For anti-bullying we had odd socks day where everyone had to wear odd socks. Vinnie had worn thigh high socks and a normal sock! This week we had lots of fun and hope to have more fun next week too. See you then!

This week 6BG has had a wonderful amount of activities to do. In Literacy, we have had to write a diary entry as Jim Hawkins from ‘Treasure Island’.
Aswell as this we have had a trip to the Canterbury Cathedral where we visited different Prayer Stations. At the end of the day, we sat in the Nave for a Service. We loved getting the train!

Friday 2nd November

What a wonderful first week back. This week has been fabulous. We watched Treasure Island and read extracts from the book (by Robert Louis Stevenson) in Literacy and lots of other fun things.

On Thursday 30th the whole school went out for outdoor learning day. Unfortunately, it rained as soon as we got out both times so we didn’t get as much done as we had hoped! Two of the activities were a blindfolded challenge and a ‘Country Hunt’.

6BG made wonderful projects over the half term on WW2. Sasha and Dylan got a Shining Star award for theirs. Some did it on their family history; others made models.

Friday 19th October

On the morning of Thursday 18th October, 6BG went to the Ramsgate tunnels for an historical visit. This was a trip linked to our topic of WW2 and it was fantastic!

Down in the tunnels we heard the stories about people who had stayed there during air raids. One included a story where a father was reading his paper on the bottom bunk, while his young son slept above him on the top bunk. The boy wet himself and it dripped through onto the dad! He soon swapped bunks!

Some facts:

  • The tunnels were never meant to be built but A.B.C Kemp brought the idea to Parliament to get permission to build them.
  • They protected the town from Air Raids
  • It took £60,000 to build.
  • Richard Bremmel designed the tunnels.
  • 130 steps to enter.

We enjoyed a couple of biscuits by the beach before returning to school!

In science we built a circuit to see what effect it had on a bulb. This made us wonder what other effects it would have, other than changing variables like the brightness of the light.
On Friday night, a school disco was held in the school hall for all of the children. We really enjoyed the taste of music and the wonderful food on sale.
We are looking forward to the trip to the Ramsgate Tunnels this coming Thursday.

This week, our school held an Inter-House Poetry competition. Lots of people took part in this event and had put lots of hard work and effort into this, both inside and outside of school. In our class, both Clio and Els took part for Water House helping Water to win.

As well as this our House Captains have been elected and will take part in many House days in the future. Representing our class are: Sid (for Earth); Liam (for Water); Lily (for Fire) and Dylan and Ellie (for Air).

In addition, our School Councillors, Sid and Clio (for our class), will be attending a meeting soon to discuss their ideas.
